2020 HIMSS WA Student Scholarship

The Washington Chapter of the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) announces its 2020 Scholarship Program to help educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

HIMSS is collaborating with local universities and community colleges to help students meet the financial commitments of a healthcare science, technology, business, and public policy education and to encourage industry mentoring and networking.

Students who see healthcare information technology playing a meaningful role in their current or future career.

 

Requirements

Applicants must:

1. Be a Washington State resident and enrolled in a Washington State institute of higher education with focus on healthcare science, technology and public policy. 

2. Complete web application and essays. 

3. Be an active HIMSS WA member, and participate in at least two events a year.

 

Scholarship Amounts

Five Available Scholarships:

  1. $2,500 - Eileen Cody Health Advocacy & Policy Scholarship: This scholarship is supported by Washington HIMSS and honors Eileen Cody, Chair of the House Health Care & Wellness Committee in the State of Washington. This is open for Graduate or Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in health advocacy or policy. 

  2. $1000 - Health Information Technology Graduate Scholarship (2): This scholarship is supported by Washington HIMSS. It is open to all graduate level students pursuing a degree in Health Information Technology. 

  3. $2,000 - Harry Sweere Undergraduate Scholarship: This scholarship is supported by Washington HIMSS and Ergotron and honors the late Harry Sweere, founder of Ergotron. It is open to Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Health Information Technology.

  4. $500 - Certificate Scholarship: This scholarship is supported by Washington HIMSS and is open to both students and professionals seeking healthcare technology related certificates.

Scholarships will be offered to undergraduate/graduate students and professionals pursuing certificate programs that exhibit academic excellence and leadership in the healthcare science, technology, business and public policy sectors.

The 2020 Scholarship call for applications is open from April 1st – April 30th, 2020. Completed applications must be submitted no later than April 30th and award recipients will be notified in mid May.

Further applicant requirement details:

  • Applicants must be enrolled as part-time or full-time students in an accredited certificate, Undergraduate (junior or senior level), Masters, or PhD program in the State of Washington. Candidates should be pursuing a degree relating to healthcare technology. Typical degrees may include healthcare administration, public health, healthcare management, public policy, health informatics, patient-centered technologies, computer science/information systems, and engineering.

  • Applicants must be current student members in good standing with National HIMSS and the Washington Chapter, and demonstrate willingness to participate in HIMSS activities. Students may apply for HIMSS membership at the time they apply for the scholarship, but awards will be granted only to those actively enrolled in the Washington HIMSS Chapter.   • Students must complete an application outlining their scholastic and professional achievements, leadership and communication skills, HIMSS experience, and activities which demonstrate their commitment to healthcare science, technology, business and public policy.
