Berry Brunk - President

Berry Brunk is a serial entrepreneur and investor with a focus on the publishing, media, healthcare, and software industries. He has spent much of his career in strategic product development with a variety of Fortune 50 companies. Brunk specializes in operational reviews, turn-arounds, sales and marketing management, compensation issues and total financial responsibilities of the projects and products involved.

Spanning a 35-yeaer career, Brunk's major accomplishments include the formation of The Pinnacle Group Media Consultants Ltd. (TPG), a New York corporation that secured product development contracts with the seven RBOC's, GTE, The New York Times Company, BigBook, InfoSpace, Xentel Interactive and a variety of other blue chip media companies representing the publishing, cable, telecommunications and new media industries. TPG was at the forefront of new media development in Silicon Alley in the early and mid-1990's.

Brunk was a charter member of the New York New Media association. Brunk oversaw the $4 million launch of an international travel magazine, had total chief executive office control of the $10 million Virginia Travel Guide, produced for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and performed multi-market sales management responsibilities for McCaw Cellular's/LIN Broadcasting's acquisition and turnaround of a $20 million specialty publishing operation. Brunk has existing relationships with advertisers in the travel, upscale consumer products, packaged goods and catalog marketing categories.

From January 1998 to July 1999 Brunk was involved with a software development startup, funded with $43MM in venture capital--that created web-enabled clinical and financial information systems for the post-acute healthcare industry. As Director of Business Development and Marketing Communications, Brunk was responsible for the launch of the corporate and product branding integrated marketing communications programs, and also became one of six lead hiring managers that took the company from 30 to 150 employees over a nine-month period.

In late 1999 Brunk founded and raised several rounds of VC financing for LaConner Technologies--a provider of interactive entertainment and educational content to the senior housing industry. Since the sale of that Company Mr. Brunk has become a thought-leader focused on Interactive Patient care (IPC) Technologies and mHealth, and has consulted with companies such as LodgeNet, IBM, GetWellNetwork, and Aceso to help them better deliver their interactive services to consumers in hospital and senior housing settings. In 2011 he assumed the role of Consulting CIO with Extendicare, the nation’s 7th largest LTPAC provider, and in 2013 was hired by Stantec as Healthcare Technology Practice Leader.  Mr. Brunk is currently on the Boards of,,, and and spent seven years on the Board of  He maintains consulting role with various EMR companies such as and Daylight IQ.  Mr. Brunk is on the Advisory Board at Virginia Tech and the National Board of Advisors for the Carson College of Business at Washington State University.  He and his extended family reside in Anacortes, Washington. Kelly Nettle - Treasurer

Kelly Nettle RN, MS, has over 30 years of nursing experience and currently works for UW Medicine/Northwest Hospital & Medical Center as a Clinical Workflow Designer.  In her current role Kelly designs electronic workflows and rules in the EMR incorporating current healthcare trends in technology for Meaningful Use, HIPAA, TJC, and national regulatory guidelines that impact the workflow and processes for the clinicians.  Kelly's passion is being an advocate and champion for providers, clinicians, and end-users, creating a bridge between IT and end-users to increased staff confidence and engagement in technology.

Kelly’s educational background is a BSN with a Master of Science in Clinical Informatics.  Kelly has over 30 years of nursing experience, having worked in Perioperative, Medical-Surgical and Emergency services.   Kelly has worked in the field of Clinical Informatics for the past 14 years, having been a Director of Clinical Informatics at Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics in Shelton, WA from 2006-2012.   Most recently she worked as a Systems Analyst/Nursing Consultant for a national EMR vendor.  She supported Provider adoption of CPOE, provider documentation, e-Prescribing, and patient portal engagement. 

Kyle Huntley - Secretary

Kyle has been a technology consultant for over 20 years with many more years of professional, academic and personal passion for technology before that. A developer by training and inclination, over the years he’s acquired a broad set of skills and calls himself an Enterprise Architect with some degree of confidence. Kyle can work at any level of the technology stack, from high-level architectural visioning to low-level coding and optimization. He can do management, estimation, sales support, QA, methods (prefers agile) and all that, but has the most fun focusing on technology.

Kyle has worked in many industries, but since 2010 has focused exclusively on Healthcare, mostly on the Provider side. For the last 15 years Kyle has worked at a Seattle-based company called Avanade.

Prior to joining Avanade, Kyle spent seven years working at Accenture. He finished his career there as a Senior Manager in the Global Technology Integration Services division, focusing on providing analysis, design, and implementation of architectural and business solutions.

Prior to joining Accenture, Kyle spent three years working for Texas Instruments, working in the semiconductor division with a focus on developing factory production analysis and control systems.

Kyle holds Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Chris Deiner-Karr - Chair, Programs

Chris has over 35 years of experience in Information Technology. She has worked in many aspects of IT; Operations, Programming, Planning and Project Management to Management. She has worked for Group Health for almost 25 years where she currently works in the Quality & Informatics department as a Sr. Planner. She has worked on planning for many system implementations such as Epic Ambulatory.

Chad Hiner - Chair, Advocacy

Chad Hiner RN, MS, is the Director of healthcare industry solutions for nVoq, Inc. He works with nVoq partners and customers developing voice-enabled use cases, providing the clinician perspective for EHR, mobile forms and other applications. He also plays a major role in validation and prioritization of market-driven product requirements.

Before joining nVoq, Chad spent 15 years working in clinical environments, including: an Army Combat Support Hospital (CSH), a bone-marrow and stem-cell transplant unit and a trauma surgical intensive care unit. He has been involved in a variety of health IT implementations, and previously worked as a clinical operations and workflow analyst for a level-one trauma and academic medical center. He is published in the “American Journal of Critical Care Nursing,” presented at the University Health System Consortium (UHC) Annual Conference, and participated in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase for five years.

Kailey Tollefson, MS - Emerging Professional Chair

Kailey has over 5 years of experience in healthcare IT. She currently works at Valley Medical Center on their IT team, where she helps manage their patient portal. Previously, Kailey supported the implementation of electronic medical records at UW Medicine. In 2013, Kailey received her Masters of Science at the University of Washington School of Nursing through the Clinical Informatics and Patient Centered Technology (CIPCT) program.

Chan Phouthavong - Membership

Chan Phouthavong is an executive and serial entrepreneur with over 15 years experience in the Healthcare & IT industry. He has deep experience in helping organizations with strategy in expanding and growing their IT workforce. Chan has worked with and supported the major payers and providers here in the state of Washington with various project implementations and mandates.
